A funky switch

If a switch is nothing more then a mechanism that brings pieces of conductive material together (and possibly separate them) then almost any common activity might become a switch! Here I have turned a chair up/down mechanism into a switch. I have added a LED to give a feedback that the switch is tuned ON. In this Lab I did no use a Microcontroler as the Arduino nor a breadboard. Pieces were soldered together to ensure connectivity and keep a clean organized circuit. During soldering I discovered that some metals do to their size a properties could not be soldered. i used glue gun and Alligators connectors.

Process

In use:

  • 9v battery
  • Battery pack
  • Red LED
  • 2 pieces of metal (1/2”)
  • Blue foam
  • Wires
  • Fabric Tape

A more sophisticated mechanism could be turning this system to a scaled potentiometer using the metal tube in the chair up/down slide mechanism, and use that to increase and decrease our dial from the end of the circuit.

  1. This is probably the biggest switch that came out of the labs. It would be entertaining to make a project of huge switch mechanisms. Another good expansion of the labs, well done.
